The Better Swag: where is it?

Posted by Anonymous on Sun 5 Mar 2006 at 12:50

A while ago, the company where I work purchased (in true dot-com style) another small company overnight, and those guys moved in cells to us. Now, they have this huge windows2003 banner with lively colors, as well as serveral other redmond-praising textiles. I'm not the jealous type, but I find myself in need to balance things a little.

Searching the net I found the usual swag like the cafepress shops with mugs, pins & hats, but I find myself in need for something that really screams "Debian" or "Tux" in your face.

A high quality banner (life size) would suffice (although only if used as office ornament ànd garment), as would inflatable tuxes stuck to the ceiling (we're housed in prefabs, that makes things more difficult).

Which shops carry this kind of workplace humanifiers? (yes, I checked thinkgeek, but they don't carry what I'm looking for - unless you can point me to something I overlooked?)

Well, I think, you will always have the option of ordering a custom banner from some local small printing/publishing shop. I think they will be able to print something using encapsulated postscript or pdf files from Debian Logos page (http://www.debian.org/logos/). In Russia, at least, this is easier that way.

I'd suggest a huge and very pretty "Windows 2003: Absolute Shite" banner ;)

We need some punchy taglines. Here are some to get the juices flowing.

debian. when 365 reboots a year are 365 too many.
debian. because I want to /still/ be running an install older than my kids.
debian. because 12 hardware architectures and 17,000+ packages can't be wrong.
debian. because 5 kernels, 12 hardware architectures, and 17,000+ packages can't be wrong.
debian. because sporting wood-y for 3 years isn't always a bad thing.

Find a nice tux/linux wallpaper, take it to a printshop and blow it up to an adequate size. My two recommendations are:
http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=35567 (GPL)
and Nostromo2k3's Debian Moment (he has some other nice ones as well):

I'm not sure about the licence for the second one though.

I'm not sure how big they can be blown up considering the resolution, might be worth sending an e-mail asking for a hi-rez version.

Actually I think it's a good reflection on you that you don't have a banner (!)

Ironically, I work at a Microsoft Gold Partner (joy - unfortunately it pays better at the moment and I have a family to support!) and the place is covered in Microsoft flags! It's bloody awful!

apt-get install cool_swag-0.1.4.

I think it's only in Etch, actually, but maybe there are backports. Don't get the one from Sid, the t-shirts made me itch.
