Interesting - I've been using encrypted USB harddrives as extention to the storage capacity on a laptop, but haven't quite found the way to run cryptsetup for the devices on plug in. Perhaps this is the right direction. Where would I place the Bash script?

Maybe /etc/hotplug.d/usb, and then run autofs off a /dev/mapper/blah event? Make life a lot easier.
