Not directly. I know that autofs configs can be scripts rather than plain files - see for example the /etc/auto.smb script that comes with the unstable autofs install. This will go get a list of samba shares available from a server when you ls /smb/servername.

It would be nice to extend this so that ls /smb/servername/mount does the expected thing. This would be similar to what you'd need to do - both script and mount.

Have to say that hotplug is still a black-box for me - it's on the list of "things to play with".
