#11 Re: An introduction to run-levels (Debian Booting in text!!) Posted by Anonymous (161.109.xx.xx) on Tue 28 Mar 2006 at 19:15 This worked for me. Go to /etc/rc3.d/ there you should find your gui log in mine was gnome so it was S99gdm. For testing purposes move S99gdm to a temp file somewhere like your home dir. Change your inittab located (/etc/inittab) to read something like this # The default runlevel. id:3:initdefault: write it the save, restart. This worked for me should you to I am running Debian 3.1_r1 i386. However if this fails to work during boot it will ask for the root password for you to fix all you have to do is move S99gdm (in my case) back to the rc3.d folder. I have tried this on the first run level (1) and it didnt work but the third runlevel works. Good luck!
