Thanks for a very helpful post.

I have (and have read and used) the mod_perl book, but as you say, it is pretty 1.x-specific.

Your "finding packages with apt-cache search" was just what the doctor ordered for a long frustration as a debian newbie. Thank you.

I also was not aware aptitude could be used with command-line arguments. I find the curses interface big, clunky and awkward, with too many modes with inconsistent nav keys. Maybe I just need more time with it, but command line use looks good right now.

Looks like I need to spend more time browsing around this site, it seems just full of gems. Thanks for a great source of Debian help.
