I have such an issue with rsync, which I investigated some weeks ago (http://www.vanginderachter.be/2005/debian-sarge-rsync-package-updated/). Debian Stable should get more than only security updates and solve annoying bugs. I realise this is to some level incompatible with the Stable notion, although this could be solved through a separate update repository, so people have the choice. Of course then there are security updates on packages who got bug fix updates....
