I pronounce it german :)
(Interresting should be were the name comes from, helps also about the pronounciation. It's Debra and Ian for the few, who didn't know that yet)

I tend to pronounce it deeply and slow, like a powerful spell. :)
But if I'm surrounded by people of Tux brotherhood, it's always said like the name of an old friend.

Ok, ok.. stop with the gushy stuff. In Italian too, it's quite simple to say but first time I first eared it, I believed it was some kind of astronomical (!) software, since for me it resembled like Deneb!

I'd always pronounced it 'Deebian' until I read the FAQs and learned the root of the name. This was of course, way before I converted all my systems to it.

Nice poll, but for non English speakers it is completely uncomprehensible. How 'bout using IPA? I pronounce it /'debian/. Is this short e, long e, either, or neithr?

Deb is just short for Debra. However Ian could be either pronounced:

/Yawn/ or pronounced /E'in/ or /I'an/ -- I myself have heard Ian pronounced all three ways. But I pronounce Debian as /Deb'E'in/ (short E.)

Cheers! -Sx-
