The advantage is that it's almost certainly the
fastest, most reliable, and secure MTA.
If I had to do it over again I'd go with Postfix.

I knew it was a dupe, but my memory was poor and I thought it had been posted before we got comments on polls - which is why I added it.
I'll check next time.

I wouldn't want to use anything other than Exim (or Exim4 as the Debian repositories call it). But I have to admit that I really don't like the messy-fanagled config system that was introduced with the move from Exim3 to Exim4.
This may be just that I haven't plucked up the courage to really dig in and get a feel for it, but whenever I've come close to it I come away thinking it's just plain nasty.
This strikes me as odd, as I usually like the basic idea of splitting configs up like Debian does, and I particularly like the way the apache2 packages are configured, but for Exim, give me a monolithic config file any day (or at least until the day I take a few hours to get my head around the new system, and at that time I reserve my right to change my mind and love the new system ;-)
Regardless, Exim gets my vote very strongly.
Cheers.

It's postfix all the way. I've tried them all and postfix seems to be the easiest to configure, and most robust. Including all of the commercial solutions out there. excluding exchange as, I'm talking about emailservers not malware spreaders. :)

But if I have to take back the management of my mails, I will use Dovecot.

I used qmail way back when... but backscatter is such a problem on today's internets that it's irresponsible (IMAO) to deploy it. My next anti-annoyance project is going to be to add a backscatterers blacklist to my system, and you can bet that 90%+ of the systems that end up listed will be qmail and Barracuda.
