Is this what is installed, or what we want to install?

Hmmmm favourite I guess ...!

Although Sarge users don't get X.org I guess they could install an experimental package..

Yeah. I use XFree coz it's in Sarge, but I'd prefer to be using X.org. When Debian make that milestone I'll be happy :)

I use Debian just for servers.
Is this poll for the Debian servers, or for my desktop box?

After the first month or two..

Personally I preferred the blue, but other people seemed to think 'red' == 'Debian', so it was changed.

I guess it's not a big deal, so I didn't object too strongly. Steve

On one hand X.Org would be nice to have in Debian, but on the other hand XFree86 already does (almost) everything I want. I would probably try transparency and other graphical effects, but then turn them off.

So, I'm happy with XFree86 in Sarge. I guess there might be other advantages with X.Org (modularity etc), but I'd rather wait for those and have a stable XFree than rush X.Org.

On my HP laptop, X.Org suffers from a number of bugs, while XFree works fine. But on a standard workstation, I happily run X.Org to see where X is going...

All I want to add is that x.org is a heck of a lot faster than XFree86. CPU usage is about a third, while update speed is a lot higher (on my rusty P3/450 notebook here).
This highly modernized Debian unstable on that 256MB machine feels about as fast as a (quite slowish) RHEL3 on a P4HT 2.4GHz 256MB!! (no kidding)
