Anyone tried Gnome 2.10? Are there any differences in performance between Gnome 2.8 and 2.10, i'am asking because i use KDE 3.4 (experminal) and it's much faster than Gnome 2.8. And i'm very curious how 2.10 works.

Sorry for my Language :)

I really like Gnome personally, it has grown on me more over the years than KDE has. However, if I need to get /real/ work done and I have a Xinerama/MergedFB setup available, I have found Ion to be the way to go. It helps keep me focused :-)

Mostly KDE. I can't get on with GNOME as a wm, but many GNOME applications are perfectly fine when running under KDE.

While many people complain about the eye-candy in KDE, I prefer it's configuration control, which is more flexible than GNOME. I usually tune the level of eye-candy down, something I can't do as easily in GNOME.

I also use Fluxbox on older machines when there isn't the grunt for a full-fat wm/enviroment.

In an ideal world a lot more of the core elements of KDE/Qt and GNOME/GTK would move into the new modular framework of X.org. I don't expect GNOME and KDE to merge...

Fluxbox all the way for me too.

I tried e17 from CVS a couple of weeks ago, very pretty, but far too annoying when I needed to actually get some work done.

I don't really mind which windowing system is running when I sit down in front a machine - except twm.

It always seems so painful to use!

Vote for FVWM, which I use on most of my comps. But soon I probably switch to wmii. It has many interesting features and very rapidly gets more of them.

A real shame there is no screenshots upon that site - unless I missed them.

I don't mind trying new WMs out, but I'd like to know what I'm going to be expecting in advance ..

I use KDE at home, was using KDE at work but for the past couple days have been using GNOME at work.

I really like both but I like the feel of KDE better.

I might have to give pekwm a try looks prety cool.

Well, I'm using KDE, but I am thinking of installing GNOME alongside.

I tried switching to E17, but soon went back to using sawfish(formely sawmill). It's not as fast as Enlightenment, but still one of the fastest WMs.

But the really good part is that it's so easy to get windows to open on different desktops, so I can have thunderbird on my "window-key-4" desktop, and all my remote desktops to windows machines on the "windows-key-3" etc. I never got this to work quite how I wanted in Enlightenment.

While you can do just about anything in librep, I actually like sawfish because it gives you so much power right in the GUI -- nice global hotkeys, useful window "memory" -- much better than "E" IMNHO.

I prefer to run Sawmill and a customized .xsession-file, running ssh-agent and other goodies, and starting up 4 xterms on my "main" desktop, in addition to Opera on my "web" desktop etc.
