While many people complain about the eye-candy in KDE, I prefer it's configuration control, which is more flexible than GNOME. I usually tune the level of eye-candy down, something I can't do as easily in GNOME.
I also use Fluxbox on older machines when there isn't the grunt for a full-fat wm/enviroment.
In an ideal world a lot more of the core elements of KDE/Qt and GNOME/GTK would move into the new modular framework of X.org. I don't expect GNOME and KDE to merge...

I tried e17 from CVS a couple of weeks ago, very pretty, but far too annoying when I needed to actually get some work done.

I don't really mind which windowing system is running when I sit down in front a machine - except twm.
It always seems so painful to use!

A real shame there is no screenshots upon that site - unless I missed them.
I don't mind trying new WMs out, but I'd like to know what I'm going to be expecting in advance ..

Was one example via the google.
I really think that the main site should have screen shots though.

But the really good part is that it's so easy to get windows to open on different desktops, so I can have thunderbird on my "window-key-4" desktop, and all my remote desktops to windows machines on the "windows-key-3" etc. I never got this to work quite how I wanted in Enlightenment.
While you can do just about anything in librep, I actually like sawfish because it gives you so much power right in the GUI -- nice global hotkeys, useful window "memory" -- much better than "E" IMNHO.
I prefer to run Sawmill and a customized .xsession-file, running ssh-agent and other goodies, and starting up 4 xterms on my "main" desktop, in addition to Opera on my "web" desktop etc.
