Would using floppies to boot a minimal system and installing from the Net count as a floppy install, or 'other'?

Hehe.

I figure that counts as a network install.

After all I've booted from network-boot CD-ROMs, and I'd count that as a network installaton. It just happened to start with a CD-ROM.

Similarly FAI is FAI, even though it actually occurs over the network..

We keep a live image and use systemimager to install. For those who don't know systemimager is basically a bunch of perl scripts wrapped around rsync.

I am first install only debian base syastem from CD. Then do further installation from Local stable mirror that i have setup. And then run security updates. I think that's enough to start & secure debian......

i tend to install a minimal base by use of the `expert' or `expert26' option at the installer prompt, and then skip the package installation steps and add everything i actually need over the network. this gives you very nice trimmed-down server systems, although installing a fancy desktop in this manner may have you going back to `apt-get' a few too many times for your liking..

I did an hd-media install a couple of times when I had no floppy and no cd drive.

For our servers we use FAI to (re)install Debian. I like the tool very much!

debootstrap from an existing system to a new drive (in a external usb enclosure). Then install it in the new system.

I have 2 Debian Sarge DVDs and start the installation from first of those DVDs. Once the base system is installed(including the Desktop Environment and some server programs), I install additional packages as and when needed using apt-get/aptitude from the local server where the same two DVDs are dumped and hosted through the local web server. I don't know if its called DVD install or a network install(i voted for DVD install).
