Unstable now uses openbsd-inetd as the default inetd. I like the security focus of openbsd, but I prefer to use Debian for a workstation and server OS for several reasons. Still, I was happy that the devs chose the superior openbsd tool over an aging default inetd recently. I am heartened to see cross-breading of good work in the FOSS community.

Hi

thanks for everyone who replied.

I just realized that my question should better be rephrased as:

"Do you prefer xinetd or inetd?"

Ie, Even if you don't use either of them, or use both of them, which one do you prefer.

thanks

On my own Debian boxen I use neither of them.

At work on the RedHat machines we use xinetd.

I don't use anything at all as I don't use any daemon that needs starting from inetd/xinetd. I don't know what other people are using.

I use tcpserver as an alternative to xinetd.

With daemontools package for supervision (from the same author ), you create a bullet-proof network service.

I use none of them. Instead, I use runit.

Both. I prefer xinetd as I find it simpler to understand and configure.
