Weblog entry #137 for Steve

Xen love

Found via debian-news.net:

A guide to using three tools I wrote. With no mention of my name. Aww.

A nice guide regardless, with only a couple of minor issues.

If you're looking at running your own xen hosting co-op, or similar, you should certainly look at xen-tools and xen-shell.

Argo I regard as an abandoned prototype which needs to be revisited, when I have more free time ..

wow - you're right, the closest the article gets there is "Although there are Debian packages for xen-tools and xen-shell available on http://www.steve.org.uk/apt/, I decided to install xen-tools and xen-shell from the sources because ....."

So much for 'thank you' :-/

There were a couple of oddities in the text, like installing the PHP IMAP libraries for no reason at all, etc.

I mailed the author making suggestions and asking him to report bugs against the packages which didn't work. (Turned out to be things that had been fixed a long time ago; I'd failed to update my backports. My bad.)

Still it was as good a read as most of the howtoforge.com articles ever are. With a few updates it would be much better .. but I guess you can't force people.
