Weblog entry #162 for Steve

xen development work
Posted by Steve on Thu 8 Mar 2007 at 18:52

Thanks to the work of Radu Spineanu my xen-shell has now hit Debian's unstable distribution.

There will be a forthcoming release of xen-tools which makes using it even simpler.

I might even make an article on using the two together; although that feels a little too much like self-promotion. That didn't used to bother me so much in the past, but now I guess I have more people reading/commenting so I do try to avoid it.

In other Xen-news I got xen + NFS roots working properly last night - so that made me happy.

I should probably think about moving some of my internel xen systems to using it, to see how well it works out, but no real rush.

I tend to have only three instances running at any time:

  • cfmaster.my.flat
  • builder.my.flat
    • Sarge machine for backports.
  • Scratch.my.flat
    • Random scratch machine, gets refreshed every night.

More would be nice, but not required unless I have a real use for them..

I'd be keen for more articles on xen-tools and xen-shell, I find both very handy and since you wrote them, you're probably in the best position to write quality articles on them.

By the way, what's the latest on mod_ifier? I was keen to use it on an etch box but found that it's been removed from the repositories due to some bugs. Would you recommend using mod_security compiled from source instead or can we look forward to mod_ifier being stable soon?

I appreciate all the work you've put into these projects.
Cheers,
Jonesy
