Weblog entry #170 for Steve

Dating Demo
Posted by Steve on Wed 9 May 2007 at 20:45

Back in February I wrote about my intention of creating an online dating site.

Despite it being several months later it is still not ready. However I'm now at a point where there is a 95% functional online demo, which I'm very very pleased with.

The development of that site has involved approximately 30-90 minutes every day since then. In retrospect that seems like a long time, but even now I rarely have the time to code a complete feature in a single sitting, which is frustrating.

Unlike this site I'm afraid the code isn't publically visible and almost certainly never will be. However some of the code I've written for that site will make its way here eventually. (Specifically the updated messaging, tagging, and searching code. We probably don't need to be able to rate user-pictures on this site!)

I'm learning an awful lot about SQL doing this, although it is still clear that my design skills are weak. Hopefully once the site is more complete I'll be able to bribe a local user or two to help me out there. I have a couple of vague offers - still when they see my HTML::Template templates they may change their minds!

It would be good to provide a demo account to let people play with the site.

Probably would. Use demo/demo.

Still right now you don't need to give an email address, or anything complex to create an account so I figured it was redundant.
