Weblog entry #184 for Steve
With a failing drive upon the old dedicated host this site is running upon Bytemark kindly offered me a new machine. The migration started yesterday evening, and ran into a few problems so I only made the switch live just now.
All seems to be working though on the new machine, and this time I have two drives + software RAID :)
One stumbling block was that the old host was an i386 machine and the new one is an AMD64. That meant that several Perl modules, not included in Debian yet, which I'd made packages for had to be rebuilt.
Thankfully the module test case I have made tracking down missing modules easy enough, and now all the site test cases pass so I'm pretty confident things are good.
The only part of the site not migrated just yet are the code documentation pages - which aren't useful unless you wish to install the Yawns software upon a site of your own - something I don't think has ever been used in anger upon a new site yet.
In other news I'm now engaged. Give me presents! (hehe!) (Are you glad you read to the end now?)

I hope that you and your betrothed find all the happiness that young love can bring.
(Have you got a secret wish list stashed somewhere ? )

Thanks. We've been very happy for a couple of years now so I hope that doesn't change.
(I have one linked to on my profile page - but that wasn't a serious request/demand!)

I just notice that the IPV6 access does no work since the migration and your DNS records still answer the IPV4 + IPV6 addresses, so my FF is going on timeout on IPV6 before switching to IPV4 :(

Thanks for the report - I'll check on IPv6 this afternoon.

I guess so, although making the agreement was the end of the mission at the moment. We've been talking about it for a good few weeks and it was nice to get an official decision made between us.
Anyway thanks a lot :)
