In preparation for a new server I created a fresh Debian install in a VirtualBox container, only this one had a pair of virtual disk drives, to test RAID1/LVM2.
In the Debian Etch installer I was able to mirror the virtual drive into two mirrors, one that had the boot filesystem installed on it and the second which I turned into a LVM volume group, from which I created logical volumes for the remaining filesystems and swap.
Everything worked okay, and I ended up with a pair of identically sized virtual file systems on the hosts system. To test the array, I then started VirtualBox and started the guest system with a missing virtual file system. The software RAID was okay, and the guest system booted up okay. I then put the virtual disk back, rebooted, and reassigned the disks to the RAID array and they rebuilt in a few minutes.
Cool!
PS. Sorry about the cheesy title!
