I want away for the weekend to see a friend from University. When I got in to work relaxed and refreshed this morning, a PC server had died, taking a production Linux/Apache/Perl box off-line. We swapped out the SCSI backplane and restarted it and I've now got to keep my eye on the box for the next few days.

PC kit may be cheap but it's not all that well designed or built. With all the best will in the world no OS can stay up and running with wired disk failures.
