Weblog entry #46 for ajt

Hell At Work

Start Rant...

The Last few weeks at work have been hell. We have been doing messy things with the SAP system so that the bean counters can save a few million euro in VAT, by virtually moving stock out of the EU into Switzerland.

Yesterday we launched a new web site for our division. It was a total dogs dinner of an affair. About 5% of the work has been done in the US on Winblows/IIS, the remaining 95% by me on Linux/Apache. Making the two bits fit has been a nightmare or link checking and fixing. To add insult to injury the US team doesn't have a proper development, quality and production environment. A few of the team in the US actually know what they are doing, I can't say the rest do - they couldn't find their own arse even with a map.

Why do cluless people in suits make desisions they are not qualified to make? Why do they never listen to the people actually employed by the business who are actually qualified.... ?

Anyhow I'm formally made my feelings clear to managment, and I'm going on holiday, and as I'm the only one with any SSH keys to the web server, there won't be any changes until I get back.

...End Rant
