GNOME Apps gone ugly again...

Yesterday I allowed Etch to run a large KDE upgrade on my box. Now all GNOME apps (Firefox, Inscape etc) look ugly as hell - the font rendering is dreadful. KDE apps are as beautiful as ever. If I run GNOME apps under Fluxbox, they return to their normal passable and KDE like appearance. I suppose that's why I run testing, to test these things. Interestigly Mozilla Thunderbird still looks pretty!

I'll have a look on BTS and see if anything has been reported.

To reply to myself.

Someone on my LUG noticed the same behaviour. He manually reset his fonts in KDE, and then GNOME apps started to behave again. I did the same - even though my fonts were okay in KDE, and likewise GNOME apps are now okay.

Fairly easy really really. From the KDE Menu select Settings > Control Centre. When the control centre starts select "Appearance & Themes", and Fonts. If I recall you just change any old font to something else, press apply - or reset to return to factor default, then put them to what you want.

I think it then regenerates the font rules on the fly and if there was something stupid lurking that you couldn't see but caused a problem it should get fixed.

For font issues have a look at:

Which has some useful tips and advice.
