"PC" Magazines
Posted by ajt on Mon 14 May 2007 at 20:58
I was at my brother-in-law's house this weekend and he said I could have a read of his PC magazines (PCW and PC Pro). I don't normally read "PC" magazines any more, after glancing at the pair at my brother's I remembered why. The level of anti-anything-not-Microsoft vitriol was quite surprising.
Everyone was patting themselves on the back to say how good Windows was, how rubbish Mac/Linux was, even the advertising was all "Microsoft is god".
I know Windows is good for games and makes an okay client system, but how can they take themselves seriously when they spend half their time fighting the registry, fixing BSODs, installing CD after of CD of third party software to correct defects in the OS, while saying that Linux is hard to use and has no software...
I know which system I prefer and as I have to use POSIX-like and Windows daily I can say with some degree of authority what is good and bad in each. The frightening thing is, they don't actually know what the strengths or weakness of Microsoft are, and they only repeat Microsoft FUD against Mac/Linux without any thinking.
I know that in the Unix/Linux world we tend to listen to ourselves as well, but I hope we don't have our head stuck in as much of a whole as the Windows users of this world...
