For all of you guys that were wondering, the plan to learn Debian in 4 days worked wonderfuly. I will be starting the new position in the next two weeks. I hope to write about my experiences on Debian, and compare it to my time spent working with FreeBSD.

Thank you for all help. It was touch and go for a while, but I got the offer letter in the mail today. Sadly, a lot of what I worked on will not be needed. After talking to the other employees, most of the software is custom modified to meet their needs. They are a US Debian mirror, so I get ultra-fast local access to updating machines. In addition to that, they maintain a custom Debian installer that is netbooted and tweaked to install a predefined set of packages. All in all, it sounds like a shop built by geeks, for geeks.

Any of the comments related to apt-get. There actually wasn't an interview -- when I got there, they had already decided to hire me. However, the time I spent on apt-get/apt-cache, etc really paid off, and I was able to ask a lot of questions that I would not have been able to, had I not gone over everything. The other major points were run levels (and how to tweak services at the levels), and the filesystem hierarchy.

hi,

As a bsd guy coming to linux/debian, don't hesitate to tell us your feelings about the difference, and the things you like and dislike in debian. I think it could be interesting.
I'm a linux guy (since 5+ years) and this year i finally tested a bsd distro : openbsd! I use it to routing/firewalling, and I start enjoying the simplicity... (because I use it to simple things) and, moreover, the PF syntax which let me create a firewall simply and cleanly! (I ever fell that iptables one is too complex!)
