Weblog entry #11 for e5z8652

Disappointed in the lack of community spirit

Browsing the web logs, specifically dmorales' entry here:
http://www.debian-administration.org/users/dmorales/weblog/1
I noticed that there is (at the time of writing) one response asking for more detail.
There are *NO* responses telling Daniela that she would be happier with OpenNMS or Big Brother or how to write a bunch of bash scripts that will create MRTG graphs and interface with Asterisk to telephone sysadmins at home during the night.
The lack of religious wars, or even a half-hearted attempt to start one bothers me.
Is Debian dying? Going the way of BSD?
I am sad.

Perhaps a high percentage of registered users are like me, that is, they're more power users than admins. My 2c.

maybe people are realizing that no work is getting done with flame-wars?

OK. Debian Administration, humour free zone.
So noted!

Hmmm... I don't know; I like the general attitude of this site. I hate reading through endless pseudo-religious rants hoping to find something useful, and more often than not finding nothing helpful at all. Here it seems like most everyone is more interested in solving problems cleanly than in why A is better than B except for C.
That's my thought anyway.

That was exactly my point when I made the comment. There is a very high signal to noise ratio here, and you don't see the big flamewars that sometimes erupt when two people have different solutions to a problem.
I guess "BSD is Dead" only has meaning on slashdot. :)
I see that this thread is increasing the noise level though, so I will endeavor to be purely on topic from here on out.
