How to connect to internet using ADSL Connection ?

I have a 2WIRE modem, a proxy server and 15 clients. My proxy server use Debian 2.6
How I can configure and connect my modem through debian ?
I've tried pppoeconf but a message display" NOT CONNECTED --> Your Provider Access Concentrator do not respons ..."

Well does your ISP support PPPoE? There are other ways to authorize DSL users even if they are quite less common.

To set up a PPPoE connection, does type of the modem effect the configuration ?
