## BCFG2 - Configuration Management at its best ## BCFG2 (REF1) is a configuration management system with a different design philosophy then that of Puppet(REF2) or Cfengine(REG3) Introduction: My opinions are based on only an introduction to configuration management through the use of bcfg2. I did some research on puppet, looking at example configs setting up a little server, but nothing really appealed to me about it. After reading a post on this very site about puppet I found a reference to bcfg2. Looking at some of the online media for demonstrations and talks about the management system you could see the outside the box thinking that bcfg2 brings to the table. The team is very knowlageble and passionate about this project and very willing to help, had an answer on irc within minutes. I was then hooked and hell bent on using this system. If you find anything in the context of nubiem or other such misconceptions let me know so I may correct them in this draft. I would highly recommend checking out the USENIX(REF4) and SAGE(REF5), even becomming a member. There is a ton of information available there. It is also another source of recomendation for using bcfg2. Setup: My initial setup is using debian-lenny on a server and client. The client bcfg2 is installed on both machines to manage both the server (may as well manage itself) and the client. As per the bcfg2 wiki(REF6) add the debian repository. I would recommend you stick with the Stable releases I initially had problems using the Testing releases.
