kernel panic debian testing linux image 2.6.16.i38
Posted by oxtan on Sat 26 Aug 2006 at 12:25
Very strange indeed.
A bit of background. I recently became the proud owner of a pIII 1ghz machine. Provided my actual desktop pc at home is a piii 500mhz, this was a huge improvement (and i got it for free, so it couldn't be better).
After some trouble I managed to install sarge and update it into testing. I think there is something wrong with the mobo because I can only get the hardisks detected in cable select mode and they get both detected as slave. Funny enough only debian gets installed in the pc. I tried centos, fedora, ubuntu. They all crash during the formatting of the hd's. Anyway, sarge installed fine, got a raid 1 in no time running. Updated to testing with a kernel 2.6.8.2.386. Runs fine.
Anyway, I have now a machine at home with which I could try running some virtual machines, just for learning and for fun. Can I do it with this kernel or must I get a newer one? I can live without udev (although I miss it).
And for the connaisseurs: what do you make out of this kernel log?
