Please give me the link for downloading latest Firefox for Debian.
Someone suggested me using Swiftfox instead of Firefox.
Is Swiftfox really better ?

apt-get install iceweasel
Or visit mozilla.org and download the latest binary release if you want the non-Debian-free version.

It is safe, but it won't get updated when the rest of your system does - so I'd suggest you use iceweasel instead.
Basically the Firefox people don't want Debian to use their browser with the changes we make, and call it firefox. So we renamed it. It has some differences between the "real" firefox, but mostly these are minor details. If you don't have a real need for the official browser use the packaged version.
If you do need something that is only in the real release then download it manually - but remember to keep it updated with any security releases which might be made.

If you are on Stable (Sarge), then you are running the latest "stable" and "supported" Debian version. Debian doesn't upgrade versions of applications within a Debian stable version, they only apply security patches.
If you are running Testing (Etch at the moment) or later, then you should install iceweasel or iceape the Debian versions of Firefox or Sea Monkey. Debian will automtically keep them uptodate with security fixes and new features as they are released.
Updates in Testing will not arrive instantly, it takes a few days for fixes to arrive and depending on how close testing is to becoming stable, new versions may or may not arrive.
Unstable (Sid) gets new security and versions fairly quickly, but it's not
a stable platorm as it obviously gets new and potentially incompatible stuff all the time.
As Steve suggests you can also install the official version of Firefox directly from Mozilla's web site but you will need to keep it upto date yourself.

Debian Sarge 3.1
How to find the other things like "Stable", "Supported" etc ?
[ Parent | Reply to this comment ]
STABLE, this version is "supported" by the Debian community and only gets security fixes. If a new porgram comes out after the release of STABLE you won't get it in STABLE. (current version called Sarge)
TESTING, this version will become the next STABLE version. It evolves over time towards the next STABLE release. Generally as new programs come out, they are added to TESTING so that they can be tested. Once TESTING gets close to a full new version, there is a code-freeze and only critical fixes are added, and eventually it becomes the new STABLE version. (currently called Etch)
UNSTABLE, this version is in constant flux. All the new stuff goes in here almost as soon as it comes out. (always called SID)
EXPERIMENTAL, this has all sorts of new stuff and radical, and may not even be fully functional.
As a general rule people tend to run STABLE on servers, and either UNSTABLE or TESTING on desktop systems.
Each version of Debian has a codename during development, e.g. Etch, and once that goes to stable it gets a version number, but most people still call it by the code name. The code name are Toy Story character because Debian was heavily used at by Pixar people early on.

and I cannot iceweasel ?

To run the latest version of a program not in STABLE, e.g. Firefox you would have to install program from the orginal source/binary e.g. the Mozilla.org version manually or try and install it from backports.org. Both of these solutions has a certain level of risk and are best avoided unless you know what you are doing.
Etch is close to being stable, and is an easy upgrade from Sarge. I see you are also interested in notDet and the version on Mono in Etch is probably what you would also want to install.

When will Debian 4.0 Etch be released ?
also you have not answered my one question -->
whether I can install iceweasel ?
[ Parent | Reply to this comment ]
Iceweasel cannot be installed on Debian Sarge via the standard Debian Sarge repositories. If you must have a later version of Firefox/Iceweasel you will need to:
1) Upgrade from stable/Sarge to testing/Etch
2) Install Firefox/Iceweasel via backports.org if it's available
3) Install Mozilla Firefox directly from the mozilla.org
