SpamAssassin, Woody, Backports -- OH MY!

So, the time has come (actually a number of months ago) that backports has officially stopped backporting for Woody distributions. Good for them! Bad for me, as I maintain Woody based servers. =(

So, now, I need to figure out how I can create my own backports. I haven't a clue on how to even start, so if ANYONE out there is willing to help, I'm willing to learn.

Anonymous,

Thanks a lot for the links. Those look like they will be very helpful!

I had searched google/backports.org for any HOWTOs but wasn't as successful as you were in finding documentation.

Thanks again,

Rich

Is there a reason (3rd party software, etc.) why you have to stick with Woody? I'm usually rather conservative when it comes to upgrading servers (I didn't upgrade to Sarge on the day it was released or anything), but waiting too long with an upgrade usually just makes it harder later on when you need to do it.

Seconded -- I think not upgrading is one of those things we put off if we can, and tend to put it off so long we end up wondering why we didn't do it earlier when we are forced to do it.

I bet the Woody to Sarge upgrade was of more interest to people at the release of 3.1 than the release of 3.1r1, and when Etch is released people will go "what is Woody?" when you ask.
