Weblogs for sebastian
Nice to see this poll on de D-A website. I am currently involved in a application selection for network and server management and monitoring systems.
It's not easy to select the right tool for the right job!
Does anyone has some tips for me?
Thnx!
Does anybody have a good idea?
Does somebody know why?
Thnx! Sebastian Broekhoven
This would be a nice Debian server :)
It's a Dell PowerEdge 2850 with 2 Dell PowerVaults on it, filled with (16) 300 GB disks.
So i removed the old memory and put 4 new gig back in the system.
After the reboot... there was stil 1 gig memory that i could see in Debian. Is there a memory limit in this kernel?
Details:
Debian GNU/Linux, sarge, 2.4.27-1-386
In my new laptop there is an Intel Centrino Mobile processor.
On my Linux system it's working in userspace (800 Mhz) by default.
With the following command I can change the speed of the processor to the highest level:
cpufreq-selector --governor performance
These are the other options you can use with it:
- userspace (800 MHz)
- powersave (600 Mhz)
- performance (100%)
I don't really like to wait on a new release of Apache for the Debian developers. If there is a new release I want to install it almost immediately.
So why should I wait for de Debain update that I can install with apt-get?
Yesterday I've installed MailScanner, SpamAssassin and ClamAV by hand on a new mailserver. It was a little bit more work, but now I use te latest releases.
I shall post my install notes later. It was an install on a clean / fresh Debian Etch server.
Today I've installed a Debian Sarge server on a HP Proliant DL 360 for monitoring purpose. On the Debian Sarge server in installed several tools like:
- Smokeping
- Nagios
- Cacti
- NTOP (for sflow)
- Nessus (a security scanner)
I didn't configure all of the tools but I like the graphs that that they are already giving.
Are ther users that know more tools that I can use to monitor networks/servers? I did like Gangila but I didn't have time to install it yet.
The only thing that i'm thinkink of is witch Debian i'm going to use. Sarge of Etch. On my Workstation i'm using Debian Etch and that works great!
