Today I've installed a Debian Sarge server on a HP Proliant DL 360 for monitoring purpose. On the Debian Sarge server in installed several tools like:

  • Smokeping
  • Nagios
  • Cacti
  • NTOP (for sflow)
  • Nessus (a security scanner)

I didn't configure all of the tools but I like the graphs that that they are already giving.

Are ther users that know more tools that I can use to monitor networks/servers? I did like Gangila but I didn't have time to install it yet.

If you are doing central logging, install and configure syslog-ng. You can then use sec to do event correlation on machine logs, generate alerts, etc.
