Lateral thinking in Devon's planning department

Logical thinking at work in East Devon.

The proposal goes forward this week for the development of land near Broadclyst for a new town.

When this was first proposed, a lot of people commented that they were planning to develop on the flood plain of the river Clyst, a region well known to locals for flooding regularly. Indeed I've had wonderfully surreal train journeys over this bit of land, where you can't see the land the train is travelling over due to the flooding either side of the line, and it looks like the trains are running over the water.

The planning process takes place, and it turns out that the houses won't be built on the part known to flood regularly (honest), they will build the railway depot on that bit. Why didn't I think of that solution to the problem?

Now I see why I am a mere system administrator whilst greater minds ponder the issue of where to build things.
