Debian hosting in the USA?
Posted by simonw on Mon 19 Mar 2007 at 12:44
Work may need a server for DNS purposes hosted in the continental USA.
I'd prefer Debian Etch, but any Unix like OS with Perl and Postgres client software will do fine.
Since it'll run DNS I'll need root access to reconfigure DNS related services, but a virtual server is fine if we have reasonable guarantee of performance. Also we'd like 24x7 support (even if there is a HUGE fee per support call - "just in case"). Physical security is also an issue, but I guess any big data center should do in that regard.
That said, it is an authoritative DNS server for a few hundreds of domains, it will have virtually no traffic, will have no server side state information that is affected by end users, so once set up it should just sit there working for years at a time with no interaction.
Can't budge on the location, or dedicated server nature of the requirement.
Recommendations?

Hi,
I have used Syminet's shared services and i can vouch for their technical support. Though i have not used their dedicated hosting services, but you might want to sak for a quote from them.

At my previous job we used www.futurehosting.biz to host a DNS server offshore in america (texas I believe). We needed a quick solution and went with the VPS one, which we had up and running in an hour from contact. The only debian they do is sarge via the VPS option but it was the best one I could find that would activate quickly.
I believe they also do other more dedicated solutions and may be able to provide etch if needed.
They are pretty good, fast, very reliable and the support was quick and responsive to setup reverse dns.
