The Bishop of London seems to be in fear of "secular fundamentalists" who believe that faith is a delusion.

I think the Bishop needs to look closer to home for the delusional. The Bishop of Carlisle seems to think that lack of moral rectitude was the cause of flooding earlier this year, all that naughty sex outside marriage, and men cuddling each other, rather than say the unusual rainfall pattern.

In my short period of being a professional meteorologist, I don't recall any morality terms in the equations used to forecast the weather. Of course maybe this is the missing term that causes weather forecasting to be so poor? I also seem to recall our weather is affected by what happens west of here, something to do with the rotation of the earth, so perhaps it is American morals that are the problem here?

The Diocese of Carlisle's website takes pains to point out that it wasn't just homosexual practices, but other lack of moral rectitude, but they left the original text so you can see the deluded thinking in its original form and draw your own conclusions.

From my recollection of the science, the climate doesn't distinguish between carbon dioxide released in heating churches, and carbon dioxide released in heating brothels (although I'd guess brothels are generally better insulated, and have more modern heating systems).

It would all be the unimportant rantings of some deluded homophobic religious nutter, but the Bishop of Carlisle gets a seat in the House of Lords under the UK's medieval constitutional arrangements. Whilst the Lords Spiritual do not usually vote, they do attend, speak, and can vote.

Talk of updating the composition of the House of Lords is in the air, and I can't help thinking that the country might be better served if a few "secular fundamentalists" who insist on evidence before drawing conclusions, some of whom have excellent scientific credentials, might more usefully occupy the 26 seats allocated to the Lords Spiritual in addressing the challenges facing the country in the future.

The Bishop of London also warned us about the dangers of "ignoring the dark perversity in human life and our own propensity to evil".

In other news a fight broke out amongst Greek Orthodox and Armenian priests who were cleaning the temple of the nativity in Bethlehem, I guess that was the kind of thing the Bishop of London meant.
