Cheese Rolling/Dining in Chester/Jodrell Bank

Back from vacation to Chester.
Seems Chester partakes of the ancient sport of cheese rolling.
One evening we ate at the Cowshed, Thornton Hough, on the Wirral, which was excellent. Although the adjacent Wheatsheaf Inn desperately needs redecorating and almost put us off entirely.
Another good meal was had at Chez Jules (in Chester itself).

The Hoole Hall hotel did us a good gammon and chips, and looked very stylish; it was almost empty presumably because of the building work that is going on.

Visited Jodrell Bank observatory on the return journey. I was a tad disappointed with the visitor centre (despite the best efforts of Eric who was helping explain it to the hordes of small children who were visiting). Not helped by the terrible weather whilst we were there, but they are looking for suggestions on how to improve the centre so looks like it will be redeveloped soon. Still it is cheap, and I'm sure any passing geeks (J18 of the M6) will stop just to say they have been, and admire the shear size of the 76m Lovell telescope. If you want to know more about (e-)Merlin or VLBI, visit their website, before visiting the visitor center!
