Weblog entry #348 for simonw
Google found a lot of people saying the case is really hard to open. It is easy if you know how.
Get a credit card (don't used anything metal it will scratch the phone), depress the release button, lift the bottom of the case gently, push the corner of the credit card in at the corner (opposite side to the microphone) between case and body, and slide the card slowly up the side of the phone between case and body gently twisting to pull the edge of the case away from the phone (only needs to be a millimeter or two). There are two latches that need to be prised out from their little grooves, there is no scope for the back to slide (as per User Guide). When the latches are released the case will come away easily, be careful not to drop the phone.
Otherwise the Nokia 5030 is a basic GSM phone circa 2009 Q2. Comes with FM radio, flashlight, calendar, a few games and almost no other frills. So far seems like a good phone, built to be inexpensive, will not be appreciated by those who like to network their gadgets, and think a toaster needs a browser. Now if only Nokia could keep the User Guide in sync with the plastic moulding folk life would have been that little bit easier.

I don't have Nokia at hand right now to check the above method, but I remember that it took me almost half an hour to figure out that the key to opening some Nokia cases is pressing the release button very gently instead of pushing it harder and harder with each unsuccessful attempt :)
